Voters in Contra Costa County approved the taxation and regulation of marijuana business, commonly known as Measure R.
More than 72% of the residents voted in favor of Measure R in the Tuesday mid-term elections.
Measure R allows a 4 percent tax on the total amount of money from cannabis businesses in different parts of the country, and $7 per square foot for those growing cannabis.
The county will cash in between $1.7 and $4.4 million for the county's general fund.
Those that support Measure R argue that it will help curb crime and funds raised also used in enforcing regulations on the local cannabis industry.
