How Many Toes Does a Fish Have?

If you have or have had a toddler at home, your probably still remember this book, tacky was an odd bird, but a nice bird to have; here are some interesting marketing life lessons that this story teaches.

If you don't follow the norm, you will fall, and that is OK

Social Media is noisier than ever. If you want to be heard, you need to do things differently. You need to come up with new ways to grab attention. Doing that on a shoe string budget is hard. It means you will fall. Be ready to fail, quickly learn and adapt, and keep trying. Don't worry if people think you are tacky. What's more important is that you are trying.

Some people may not like your splashy cannonballs, and that's OK

You will never be able to make everyone happy. Your marketing will attract a few and repell a few. And that is OK. It is more important to make a "splash" than do nothing at all.

Be helpful, resourceful, and genuine

While you are being all different and tacky, keep in mind the only reason people will give you business (and their money) is if you are resourceful and genuinely helpful. Be with your customers in thick and thin, advocate for them, fight for them, be their best friend, and everyone would love to have you around.

You can grab a copy of Tacky the Penguin from your favorite bookstore or library. Happy marketing!
